At the end of 2002 First Cut made great strides into the capital equipment arena when it acquired Band Sawing Services (Pty) Ltd into its operations. Now a large component of First Cut's offering, the Structural Fabrication section of the business includes a wide range of products and services. First Cut is committed to offering its customers the best in quality products and cutting-edge design from around the world. As such, First Cut has joined forces with a number of international companies, all of which have many years of experience in structural fabrication solutions, including Voortman, CMM and Stierli-Bieger.
First Cut is the South African representative of the Dutch company Voortman, an acknowledged leader in the global sawing machines and steel processing technology industry. Voortman offers a packaged service, including planning, implementation and after-sales service. Voortman sends technicians from Holland to install all equipment and train technical teams. This technical expertise is matched with First Cut's local knowledge and back-up service. Through intensive training, the First Cut team has gained an intrinsic knowledge of the Voortman steel processing systems and is therefore able to provide excellent support. As such, First Cut makes an ideal partner for Voortman in South Africa.
Voortman delivers a total integrated solution called “Multi System Integration” (MSI). Each Voortman machine is equipped with its own State-of-the-art VACAM Control Software. By interconnecting the handling systems and the VACAM Software on the machines, virtually one integrated production system is created, which increases the productivity highly while man-hours are being saved.
Voortman has a shot blasting and painting division and offers hard-working solutions in the shot blasting or welded constructions sectors.
Voortman Product Range
- Beam Processing including drilling, sawing, marking, coping, cambering
- Plate Processing including cutting, drilling, drilling and cutting (combined), drilling and cutting (split)
- Flat and Angle Processing including punching and shearing, numbering, storage
- Surface Treatment including shot blasting and painting
CMM, based in Italy, has more than 25 years experience in the welding automation industry. CMM specialises in horizontal and vertical beam welding, as well as other equipment for beam handling and welding.
Horizontal Beam Welding
- Column and boom with 2 carriages: a simple and economic machine, very flexible in the welding of beams and boxes.
- Manipulator: This machine has a fixed boom, two carriages on the same side and a pneumatic auto guidance system; as it is not flexible, it is designed for welding beams only.
- H-Master: recommended for high production and one side welding.
Vertical Beam Welding
- T-Welding Equipment: a very flexible machine, for large, cambered and conical beams; with a straightening flange during the welding process.
- Flange straightening machine: this machine operates at a fixed speed of 3m/minute.
- Bridge manufacturing (panels/troughs).
CMM also provides complete welding lines for the fabrication of flat panels and blocks (for shipbuilding), as well as welding of cylindrical pieces, for reservoirs, tanks, and pipes.
The Swiss-based company Stierli Bieger AG is a world leader in premium horizontal bending and straightening machines. A bending and straightening machine has to be perfectly constructed and welded so that it can withstand the demands of years of wear and tear. Stierli prides itself on specialist know-how when it comes to bending and straightening, which the company has developed over decades. The company’s horizontal bending machine has a capacity of between 8.5 – 800 tons, and enables you to do bending, straightening and forming on the same machine. Pipes with diameters of between 100 and 400mm can be bent on the horizontal bending machine.
The company has recently introduced a new CNC-controlled 2-axis bending machine with an integrated angle control and automatic spring-back function. Using the new control, basic data such as material specification, dimensions, angles and leg lengths can be defined simply and quickly.
Stierli Bieger also manufactures frame-bending machines, radial bending machines, flange straightening machines, ship-frame benders, steel welding and dressing platforms and roll-out racks.
The company also produces special rotating equipment, which can also be used for welding, painting or assembling. The load capacity of 6 000kg/pair or 12 000 kg/pair allows for effortless and safe rotation of large and cumbersome constructions. The rotating equipment is fast-turning and allows for efficient welding and dressing (and visual inspection) in every possible position.
